Oracle selection provides insight into how far off practice is from Utopia in plant breeding

Since the introduction of genomic selection in plant breeding, high genetic gains have been realized different breeding programs. Various methods based on estimated values (GEBVs) for selecting parental lines that maximize gain as well improving predictive performance proposed. Unfortunately, it remains difficult to measure what extent these really long-term values. In this study, we propose oracle selection, a hypothetical frame mind uses ground truth optimally select parents or optimize training population order each cycle. Clearly, cannot be applied true program, but allows assessment existing and update evaluation how far are from optimal utopian solution.
